Research Summary

The focus of my work is the determine genetic and developmental mechanisms that control the formation of the human forebrain and how defects in the prenatal assembly of the brain cause mental and neurological disorders.

Specialized Terms: defects in the prenatal assembly of the brain; genetic and developmental mechanisms that control the formation of the human forebrain; prenatal brain

Extensive Research Description

My research is focused on transcriptional and regulatory programs that control the formation of the cerebral cortex. Disruption of these mechanisms is thought to cause neurological disorders such as Dyslexia, Autism and mental retardation. I apply a genome-wide systems biology approach in combination with cutting edge molecular techniques to decipher both conserved and species-specific developmental mechanisms.
